Why do we address, the way we do??-VJ

I was thinking today, why we address our elders wrongly, just interms of relationships.

A few examples:
1) I called Janet Akka/Athai once Chithi.
2) Myself, Ajay and Mani call Bobby Mama and his mom has Vijaya Chithi.
3) The worst is Korattur Dany's family. I sometimes refer to them as Periappa-Periama, sometimes as Mamma-Athai.

I thought that I was the one who makes this blunder all the time. But today I realised that Arul also refers to his grandmother/Athai has Periama.Arul how did Sironmani ammachi or Athai become Periamma? I am confused and I wrote this confusing post.

I guess its really easy in English, where you just refer all of them as Uncles and Aunties.

Appu, you dont feel that everyone calls you Vaada/Pooda

BEER please!!! (boon-bane-bone) - Prax

Milk isn’t the only bone-building beverage: A beer may also help, say British doctors. It’s a good source of silicon, a mineral that is thought to stimulate collagen production, a building block in bone formation. In a preliminary study, doctors looked at 2847 people from a British osteoporosis study and found that men/women who consumed that most silicon – about 40mg a day – had the highest bone mineral density, a measure of bone health.

Silicon is rarely listed on nutrition labels, so it’s hard to tell how much we consume, says study author Jonathan Powell, a nutrition researcher at St Thomas’s Hospital in London. A 340ml beer has about 7 mg of silicon.

Not a drinker? This news is no reason to start, since excess alcohol consumption raises other health risks, (**mandha memory, liquid liver...**) including osteoporosis (bone fracture) itself. Dates, mangoes, melons, spinach, apples and some bottled mineral waters are also good sources of silicon.

Devil's Pool-Vj

/object>

You all know about Victoria Falls at Zambia/Zimbabwe border. Its supposed to be one of the highest and dangerous falls in the world. There is a natural pool at the top, from where the water plummets down. So people swim there and can lean over the edge of the falls.

Imagine our family members esp the ladies reacting. They usually scream if we stand even at Monkey Falls. Do comment on how our family members would react.

Help Proverbs! - Prax

The 'Proverbs' is very quite for a long time. So, I thought let me help it look better on the label count. Let me throw a couple of it.

1. A dead fish gets washed along; a live one swims across.

This World throws a lot of challenges. Do we get washed along or get over?

2. Happy Wife; Happy Life.

Before arguing with your “W” just ask yourself this question
Do I wanna be right? Or Do I wanna be happy?

Christians and Fish-VJ

I read an article about a Jesus Fish symbol. So thought I would share. This is called as "Ichthys", during the early christian period, due to the fear of persecution, when a Christian met a stranger in the road, the Christian sometimes drew one arc of the simple fish outline in the dirt. If the stranger drew the other arc, both believers knew they were in good company. The symbol is still used today to show that the bearer is a practicing Christian.
Bobby Mama could throw some light on its historical significance if any, maybe related to Peter or the early fishing disciples/missionaries.

Let me tell you what... (part 2) - Prax

Suddenly the monitors showed some activity. There was a buzz around.
Something good was happening. It was successful and there she came out of the operation theatre ALIVE.

She is a weak young lady with numerous complexity in her body. Her mother and sister (she lost her father) were clearly upset on how she will get through this. But she was repeatedly given these words from Jeremiah 29:11. She strongly believed it. She never felt any discomfort. During her operation and before going unconscious she only prayed this. “Lord I would stand a witness and share it with as many as I could, if I come back alive. I place my life in Your hands”.

Let me tell you what... (part 1) - Prax

She was admitted for an open Heart surgery in the Apollo Hospital, Chennai.
The date was fixed and terror struck on people around her, but she was unruffled. Days to hours, hours to minutes, minutes to seconds… and there the big round lights went on, on top of her. Those masked men were working frantic and artificial respiration was on.

Complex process! ‘50-50’ chance was already informed to the representative. To worsen the fear, the negative 50 was taking over. Deteriorating! Dreadful and confused, the men in mask worked hectic but lost hope inside. Some of them even gave up and sat down still watching those monitors as it was nearing a halt .....
D e a d
almost.

Zimbabwe Currency Crash (An Indian is a Zimbabwean crorepati)-VJ

I am not sure, how many of you know about the situation in Zimbabwe. The economy crashed a long time back and I heard accounts of people not finding water to drink etc etc. But the situation would be better understood, if you consider the value of 1 Zimbabwe Dollar. Yesterday it crashed so badly, that 1 USD was equal to 1 Billion Zimbabwe Dollar ( Yes, 1 Billion !!). That means one Indian rupee is equal to 2.2 crores Zimbabwe Dollar.
Just thought that this would be an eye opener for us.

Nearing 100 posts-VJ

We are nearing our 100th post on our Blog, that's an impressive joint effort. I know it
is a small thing, but I thought of summarizing the best posts till now and have a "BEST OF SKF".
Btw, this is our 99th post, so say what are our best posts in the comments section

Give a caption for the Birthday Babies-VJ

Hey guys this is a follow up to Prax's post. Both these people are celebrating their birthdays tomorrow. Can you think of a caption or a comment which highlights their similarities.
Btw dont use any sarcastic or negative comments, coz we are dealing with an Indian leader. There are chances of it being a cyber crime or some other issue ( Some guy was jailed for writing wrong comments about our Congress President ). So just positive comments.

'Habetbaba' - Prax

In an Australian Aboriginal language called Jingulu, 'Habetbaba' means nothing to say/inform. Yea, there is nothing special to mention. I was thinking of writing a blog, but no news, and so, this blog. This only goes to show that even if you don't have matters to jot, you can still manufacture scraps. 'Write something about nothing' is the title of a famous book by Charles Dickens. And talking about Charles, we have a Charles too, who's celebrating his 19th birthday tomorrow.

Happy Birthday Charles Mani!
